U’s Eyeing Birchall

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams is believed to be tracking Barnet striker Adam Birchall.

Birchall, who has 15 goals to his name this season, is out of contract at the end of the season. The U’s are rumoured to be among a number of clubs keeping tabs on the Bees’ front-man, League One side Brighton are also interested.

Despite being born in England, Birchall has featured for Wales under-21’s; scoring two goals. The 23-year-old started out at Arsenal but failed to break into the first team, so was loaned out to Wycombe Wanderers where he scored four goals in twelve appearances.

In June 2005 Birchall signed a two-year deal with Mansfield Town, following his release by Arsenal. Birchall joined League Two side Barnet on loan, in November 2006, a move that was made permanent the following January.
