U`s Hope On Perkins Transfer U-turn

Here`s hoping Colchester United will maintain their bullish stance on the David Perkins transfer request.

Sky Sports played catch-up today, after Vital lodged an article about the surprise demand shortly after last Saturday`s MK Dons loss, but had some interesting quotes from Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw to air.

He echoed manager manager Joe Dunne`s initial thoughts in suggesting midfielder Perkins may yet be prepared to change his mind and stay with the club, a refreshing attitude given that they last week let Dean Hammond and Johnnie Jackson leave without much apparent resistance.

The U`s also underlined that they will not sell short this time, unlike in the case of Jackson`s Notts County move, where the previosuly popular player was given a free transfer.

Bradshaw – a very busy man these last few days – said, via the official website: “David understands that any transfer would have a financial element to it, as he was bought by the football club for a six-figure fee only 12 months ago. He is also absolutely committed to taking every playing opportunity whilst he is here.”

Although the phrase ‘absolute commitment` isn`t the phase that would normally describe someone who has just asked to leave, you get the point.

He`s staying, for now, barring some hard bargaining beofre the current transfer window soon slams shut.

Well – I believe, and hope, Perkins is the sort of player to always give 100%.

  • Matt_Us says:

Does seem so – good to see the U’s wanting a return for thier investment this time having let Coyne and Jackson, good players, go for nowt.

  • StevieG Col U says:

Jacko never cost nothin so no real loss. Up the U’s!

  • Matt_Us says:

Not in terms of finance, but he had a market value. I suppose it was kind of the club to let him go… all for that if a player has been good to the club so long as the fans don’t end up being out of pocket!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yeah – suppose so. Slow news day today? Up the U’s!

  • Matt_Us says:

Sure is, without any real news on a new manager for the first time since, well… the last time!!! I did pretty well improvising on Sunday but currently constructing tonight’s run-down is proving quite hard!!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Good luck – jack all has happened!

Cue some very creative journalism, coming right up!

  • The Stig says:

I cant believe another player wants out… and to say that the man who shall remain nameless supposedly installed a team based mentality- none of that seems to have sunk in very far does it????

  • Rob_CU says:

We’ve still got a strong squad, beevers looks likely to return maybe we could do with a CM IF Perkins goes, hope not tho. Up the U’s

  • Matt_Us says:

We good have a decent squad and Steve Wignall seems to think we also have a budget of within top-six in League One. So… not too bad; stay please, Perks!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yep – still have a very good squad – better than most in L1.

  • Matt_Us says:

Agree, SGCU. But it’s an IF with Perky and credit this time to the club for saying they will hold out, although they did exactly the same with Hammond so… we’re a well-managed team. There have been a few mistakes under Cowling, but they looked safe at the time. Perks will have done quite well, overall, if he goes. How much did we pay again? Wasn’t it a knock-down price for some reason…?
