This morning Glenn Roeder was announced as the new manager of Norwich City, the post recently linked to Colchester United manager Geraint Williams.

Williams, who rebuffed the rumours along with Chief Executive Marie Partner last week, will not have been surprised at beign linked with Norwich hotseat, after leading the U`s to a famous tenth placed finish last season.

Former U`s manager Phil Parkinson, now assistant to Alan Pardew at Colchester`s Championship rivals Charlton Athletic, also ruled himself out of the running for the post.

Roeder, 51, has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal with the Championship strugglers, who have not taken three points from a game since September the 15th.

The former West Ham and Newcastle manager has been out of work since leaving St. James Park in May, after 73 games in charge.

Roeder takes over from Jim Duffy, who was placed in temporary charge following the departure of Peter Grant.

Call it optomisic, but this column hopes that Williams will still be in charge of Colchester for a long time yet, even if one of the suppesdly bigger local rivals from the area make a pass at him every once in a while.
