Colchester`s three home games in a week ended with four points, two goals, and one win.

The manger Paul Lambert is now on record as saying his side should be scoring more, but the cliché goes that one is sometimes enough.

So it proved on Tuesday when Marc Tierney scored a blinder to win United three points against Stockport.

The defender, pleased with his contribution to the game, said: “We want to make sure that this is not just a one-off result. We want to go again and I’ve set my eyes firmly on us getting into the play-offs.”

The manager reiterated enough, but also told fans that £400,000 talent Steven Gillespie could be the season`s saviour: “He is a terrific lad and it has been just as frustrating for me, because when he has played, he has always created chances for himself and the team and he can still be an important player for us this season.

“He came here for a heck of a lot of money and he hasn’t had many chances to prove himself in the team,” added the manager.

Lambert has also hinted this week that the squad is currently too big, saying it needs to be ‘trimmed.’

Two players speculating over their own position at the club were defender Chris Coyne, and striker Akanni-Sunday Waisu.

Coyne tired to play down the talk of his move downunder, saying it depends on how any transfer will impact his career with Australia.

“First and foremost, I’m a Colchester player and at this stage I expect to be kick-starting next season with them. I think the link between myself and Glory has probably been blown a little out of proportion,” click here to read his full comments, or here to comment on Sunday’s possible return to Luton Town come summertime.

In other transfer news, Dean Gerken has returned after Darlington slide into administration, which was reported fully here on the site. Jimmy Walker is now leaving the club after a loan from West Ham, which gives Gerken the chance to prove he is number one. It is likely, if Gerken does not produce good form, that the club will look to sign Walker at the end of the season.
