U`s In JTP Pair-Off With Gillingham

The month will end with another tie against Tuesday night`s opposition, Gillingham, in the Johnston`s Paint Trophy, on August 31.

What it really means is football for football’s sake and at least gives journalists the chance to make bad jokes about comaparing the standard of football on offer to watching the stuff dry. Oh joy!

The U’s last reached the final of the Football League throphy in 1996.

United faced the Gills in the competition last season and also host them at home next week in League One.

Sixteen teams were given byes, including Colchester`s Essex rivals, Southend.
