Colchester United, this week moving to secure the long term future of many players in the squad in the wake of Jamie Cureton`s transfer request, have been told by Kem Izzet that he expects to be “paid Championship wages.”

In tonight`s Evening Gazette, the midfielder, 27, will claim that he is undecided on whether or not to sign a new extension to his current contract, despite the fact that fellow team-mates John White and Kevin Watson had yesterday both agreed to stay.

Izzet said: “It’s in their hands.

“I have held talks with the club but nothing has been agreed,” he added.

“As long as the offer is what I’m looking for I will sign – but we’re pretty far apart at the moment.”

“I’m happy to stay at Colchester United. But I’m a Championship player and I feel that I should be paid Championship wages.”

There’s a few points to be made: Izzet was given a two year deal by Parky last season and still wants more. He could have ended up as an also-ran if the U’s had not suck by him.

Yeah but these players have proven thelmselves and are only asking for what is sureley rightfuly theirs??

He had a good season. Perahps they’re just saying they could get better money somewhere else. Noboby would have wanted to leave if the team had gone down because none of the team would have proven themselves at this level. WiG is right: “Victims of our own sucsess.”

I dont blame him he just doin what we all do in our jobs if we been successful which they have.Think hes a good player but think your teams had a great season and will be very lucky to reapeat it unless you invest.
