Colchester United have been linked with a move for Chesterfield forward Jamie Ward.

Ward, 22, has also been linked with moves to fellow League One clubs Northampton, Scunthorpe and MK Dons. The Birmingham-born striker, who can also play in midfield, netted 12 goals last season for the League Two club.

Ward, a former Nothern Ireland U-18 international, started his career at Aston Ville but failed to feature for the first-team. In March 2006, Ward joined Stockport County on loan. He made nine appearances for County, scoring once. Following his release by Villa at the end of that season, Ward signed a 3-year-contract with Torquay United. In December 2006, Ward asked for a transfer away from Torquay and was signed by Chesterfield the next month.

Ward still has 12-months to run on his current contract at Saltergate, so will require a fee if the U’s were keen on him.

So would Ward be a good signing? We want to know YOUR thoughts?

I think we havw better options in the current squad and there must be better options elsewhere

Well only a rumour, heard any other players being linked? Up the U’s!

It wasnt that long ago we were being linked with Barnet striker Birchall whose contract was up at the end of the season but haven’t heard anything more. Birmingham City have just announced their reserves won’t be entering into a league next season, instead opting to play friendlies. I’m sure there will be a few promising youngsters who would be available on loan. If we can keep Lisbie, Platt, Vernon and Guy then I think we will only need aa squad player.
