Ahead of the new season Colchester added to the Development Squad with the signings of Charley Edge and Chris Regis with Tyler Brampton and David Segura leaving temporarily to get themselves some first-team experience.

The U’s added youngsters Edge and Regis, formerly of Everton and Southampton respectively, after featuring for the U21 side during pre-season. The arrivals were confirmed on the Official Website ahead of the Blackpool draw on Saturday.

Following his signing, which he’s done following an enjoyable pre-season with Colchester, Regis is now hopeful – as plenty of others younger players have also had this chance – he’ll be able to soon force himself into Tony Humes’ first-team squad, saying.

‘Pre-season has been a really good test and I’m glad to have signed for Colchester United. This is a club that’s got a lot to offer and I feel like I can make good strides here.

‘There is an opportunity for young players to make their way into the first team here, so I hope I can progress here and follow in the other young players’ footsteps.’

Being released by Everton was a disappointment for Edge, who admitted he was worried following this but is now ‘made up to have signed for Colchester.’

Like his fellow arrival the fact the chance is given to you at the WHCS wasn’t lost on him and he added he’s keen to get involved as well.

‘A lot of young players get a chance at senior level here and I’m someone who is keen and hungry to get to the first team level as soon as possible.

‘I’ve been around the group for a month or so now and there are some good players here. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but there are some tidy players in the team and I’m looking forward to get started.’

Brampton and Segura, who also saw their moves confirmed on the Official Website, will be spending the next three-months with Maldon & Tiptree.

This gives the U’s youngster a chance at that much needed first-team experience.
