Elliott Hewitt being recalled by Ipswich Town was something that was highly anticipated, with this now proven to be the case.

Hewitt has impressed during his month with Colchester but with Ipswich injuries mounting his parent club, as is their prerogative, have called him back.

U’s boss Tony Humes was of course disappointed to lose his services, and wanted him for longer, but isn’t ruling out a future return if possible.

Humes told the official website: ‘We were really pleased with Elliott over the past month and would have liked to keep him longer.

‘Mick has taken Elliott back with the month’s loan done but we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on his progress.’

During his spell at the Weston Homes Community Stadium the 20-year-old defender featured in four-games but is now expected to go straight into the Ipswich squad that face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship tonight.

It’s a blow to lose Hewitt but these are the joys of the loan market!
