Experienced Peruvian Nobby Solano’s propsed move to Colchester United is off after an agreement over a deal failed to materilise.

Over the past few weeks the 35-year-old right-sided ex-West Ham man has spent time training with the U’s, with boss Aidy Boothroyd considering a short-term contract for him. However, despite Solano telling press in his homeland that a six-month deal was done, no official confirmation followed.

And now, as expected by many fans, Boothroyd has confirmed that Solano will not be joining.

Speaking to the club’s offical website, Boothroyd said: ‘Nobby won’t be staying with us. We had discussions over the possibility of him joining the club, but there won’t be a deal signed on this occasion.’

Since the news broke, rumours in the press have been rife that Solano is now training with former club Newcastle United – with the target of earning himself another spell at St James’ Park.

Always looked unlikely when Lisbie was allowed to stay and Henderson coming in

Would have been another teddy sheringham perhaps. I know, why dont we go an ask david beckham to join us or nobbies mate Alan shearer ha ha ha

What was Boothroyd thinking anyway? Apparently, Solano can’t get through 90 minutes in the Peruvian leagues. I’m not quite sure of the standard but I imagine it’s not vastly superior to League One. Newcastle United fans were chanting his name last night.

Yeah, would have taken a large chunk of wages so probably best if we spend them elsewhere now. A new CM is a priority IMO.
