Colchester United`s stand-in skipper at the weekend, Kemal Izzet, has told the media that the club need to keep clean-sheets like Leicester City if they are going to win promotion.
His comments ironically come after the Foxes were held square in a high-scoring but tight game against fellow high-flying side, MK Dons.
Izzet also told the EADT after Saturday`s 1-1 draw that he would be relinquishing the armband when Dean Hammond returns to the side on Tuesday night. The regular captain was out with a small knock.
“That’s the difference between the teams at the top and the rest. When Leicester City get 1-0 up, they rarely concede a goal. That’s why they are top of the league,” said the U`s number 10, now the club`s current longest-serving squad member, a solid savant since 2001.
“We threw it away today,” he admitted. Izzet also added that he was asked to play in a slightly different position in protecting the back four.
“It’s always an honour to be named skipper. I enjoy it, and of course I was delighted when the gaffer asked me to wear the arm-band. But Deano will be the skipper when he gets back,” Izzet also commented.
He made no comment on the U’s play-off chances, which are now hanging in the balance, following the drawn game.
