Colchester United coaching pair John Ward and Joe Dunne are both well-and-truly in the running to be the next U’s manager.

With boss Aidy Boothroyd departing late last week; his two right-hand men, Ward and Dunne, both remain at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. The experienced Ward, 59, was bought into the club by Boothroyd, while club legend Dunne is once again mentionend – with him a firm favourite with U’s fans.

‘They are both serious contenders,’ U’s chairman Robbie Cowling told The Daily Gazette.

The duo met with Cowling on Friday and discussed plans for the immidiate future.

He added: ‘We had a good chat and we wanted to reassure them what the process will be.’
