Colchester United caretaker, Joe Dunne, has confirmed that striker Clive Platt is back in contention for a start against Leeds United this weekend.

Dunne however has allayed fears that Platt -who was suspended for three games – will be chronically short of match-fitness prior to the game, saying on BBC Radio Essex that he could feature in a midweek match as preparation.

The club have to plan a special workout for the striker because Combination Reserve League football does not kick in until next month.

Meanwhile, Lee Beevers` shoulder injury during the weekend loss to MK Dons has been assessed and is not as serious as first feared and he is expected to be fit.

Platt will challenge Kevin Lisbie and Scott Vernon for a start, while Beevers must prove himself to prevent either Alan Maybury or Phil Ifil getting the nod at right-back.

Well we’ve got three strikers who have netted 2+ this season all vying to start against Leeds – is epic!

  • Matt_Us says:

Up the EPIC U’s! Any word on the fitness of Jamie Guy?

No idea what to do. Should we replace Vernon with Platt, or does Vernon merit his starting role? I supose he does with 2 goals in the 3 games Platt has missed.

  • Matt_Us says:

You’ve got to look at it this way I suppose: Platt has qualities that others don’t, so… depends A) How fit Platt is compared to the others and B) who is going to be in the opposing defence. I’d go Vernon and Lisbie on merit and then give Platt a run-out after the hour mark, if god forbid, I was in charge!

  • StevieG Col U says:

Yeah is a poser – but a nice one all the same! Go with Vernon and Lisbie I say! But then Platt should be fired up ready to go! Oh – I dont know!

  • ooohhJohnnieJackson says:

Lets go for all 3 up front!
