Greg Halford and Lomana Tresor Lualua are both playing football at the highest level, having both came through the ranks at Layer Road.

Here, Vital’s Stevie G reveals a few of the names from the next generation of exciting young talent hoping to come through Colchester United`s youth system.

Anthony Wordsworth (18-years-old):Wordsworth is a lively central midfield player with an eye for goal. Wordsworth made his Colchester debut as a sub in the League Cup earlier this season and is a regular in the U`s second string.

He scored three goals while playing in pre-season for the Layer Road side. The young offensive midfielder is set to undergo surgery on a groin injury next week.

Tom Webb (18-years-old): Webb is a nifty striker; once again he is a usual in the reserve side, recently scoring for the second string in the 3-3 draw away to Peterborough.

Webb made his Colchester debut as a sub in the 1-0 League Cup defeat away to League 2 side Shrewsbury Town, in August.

Tom Devaux (18-years-old): Devaux is a central defender, yet to make his U`s debut but, once more, is a regular in the reserve team.

He has been in Essex for a couple of years, but first-team chances look bleak with U`s well accounted for in defence at the moment.

Medi Elito (17-years-old): Elito is one of the most promising youngsters to come through the youth system in the last year or so.

Elito is a winger/striker with pace to burn and has been on the first team bench this season; he is yet to appear.

Premiership giants Manchester United were reportedly tracking the teenager last season, however he committed his future to the North Essex club. He has caps to his name in the England youth-team.

Colchester United`s youth set-up is well-known for producing talented players, hopefully it will keep on doing so for many years to come!
