Jamie Cureton`s recall as a Norwich City slicker today means that any return to Colchester United looks unlikely.

The 33-year-old former Championship Golden Boot Winner was being linked with a move back to United after his second spell at City turned sour under Glen Roeder.

He admitted publically this month that he would have welcomed the chance to play again for United, before being offloaded to Barnsley. It is understood that new U’s manager Paul Lambert did not make any bid for the player.

Norwich have since sacked Roeder and Cureton`s former teammate Barry Gunn has become caretaker boss, leading to his recall.

Cureton made no mention of the U`s in a morning newspaper interview, which quotes him expressing relief that he can return to Carrow Road.

“I was literally coming back to watch a game of football and during that time the manager’s gone and I’ve been called back.

It’s been a lot to take in but for me to be back is great, it’s what I want to do so I’m pleased on that point.”
