Colchester United began their pre-season in earnest at the weekend with a victory, coming out 2-0 winners against Dover Athletic.
The double strike from Colchester came inside the game`s first twenty minutes, with first a headed effort from Anthony Wordsworth giving the Essex side the lead.
Clive Platt made the result safe with another header.
The game also saw a trio of club trialists feature, with Shaun Philips getting 10 minutes on the pith as a substitute for Mark Cousins.
Although limited conclusions can be drawn from any such low-key game, players staff and fans have all reponded well to the first taste of 2010/11 action.
