Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has admitted the U`s will need ‘something of West Ham proportions`, to beat the drop, after moving ten points adrift from safety.

After losing five on the bounce, Williams and his players still refuse to give up?

Speaking to My Football Writer, the U`s chief said: ‘We’re not down at the moment but it’s going to be a heck of a fight and something of West Ham proportions to stay up.’

‘We’ll see, the performance tonight showed just how positive the lads are. I couldn’t ask any more they gave 100%, every single one of them.’

‘We’re playing for pride and for points, but there’s a massive gap at the moment and it would take a great string of results to get us out of it.’ He explained, hopefully.

‘Twenty-seven points and an awful lot of pride. That’s what we’ve got to make sure, that it’s a proud man who walks out in a Colchester United shirt.’

‘These players are looking for someone to tell them that we have to keep going, they need someone to lead them and that’s what I’ll do.’

The U’s now prepare to face FA Cup semi-finalists Cardiff City on Saturday: ‘So Saturday’s mentality will be as it has been all season, be positive, look to go and win and carry on the way we started tonight.’

‘We need to get in front but we’ve got to keep clean sheets and we haven’t done that this year.’

So the question is: Who will be our Carlos Tevez?
