Vernon Defiant After Carlisle Enquiry

Scott Vernon has told the local press why he refuses to walk away from Colchester United after an enquiry from Carlisle.

The 25-year old was a preferred makeweight in the potential swap deal for U`s target, Carlisle goalie, Ben Williams, but declined to leave.

“My view is that I don`t want to jump into something too soon. I want to weigh up my options and I don`t want to rush into anything. If I get the chance, I`d like to stay at Colchester,” he told the Colchester Gazette today.

That paper says the U’s move for Williams is still possible, despite the lack of move by Colchester last week. They have since been chasing Dundee’s Rab Douglas, viewable here.

To quell speculation that he had been frozen out by manager Paul Lambert, following an outward loan last season to Northampton, Vernon said today both were in an ongoing consultation about the striker`s Colchester future.

It was in doubt after Carlisle boss, Greg Abbott, moved to hasten any agreement by setting a delaine of 5pm last Friday.

Vernon`s emphatic response, reported here on Vital Colchester, was unexpected after week-long talk that his exit was only a matter of time.

But Vernon added: “I`m 25 years old and I just want to play regularly – I have to base my decision on that. Ideally, I will be starting the season with the team I am with in the long-term.”

So, is Vernon staying now?
