Colchester recovered from their Carling Cup defeat against the same opponents, Wycombe with a weekend draw.

John Ward, as he told told BBC Essex, was more than happy with the outcome.

A 1-1 home draw might not have been the result The U’s fans would have wanted but he took plenty of pluses from this: ‘people say the result is the be all and end all, but there’s a a lot of good things to come from that football.

‘We had a fantastic first half, played some excellent football and you’ve got to respect what Wycombe have done in the second period.’

In what it a tough league one this season Ward has no doubts that Colchester are one of the ‘great teams’ in it: ‘it’s a super league, there’s some great teams in it and we’re one of them.’
