Following eight games without a victory this season John Ward’s spell as Colchester manager has come to an end.

Ward was sacked on Monday following the weekend defeat with Robbie Cowling, as he told the official website, saying it was a decision that was regrettably needed: ‘So much of Colchester United is better than it has ever been, but sadly that is not being reflected in first team results.

The Colchester chairman added this move needed: ‘to stop the negativity of the on-field results impacting on the other areas of the club that have also been drastically improved.’

Ward had been in charge of The U’s for two-years when he took over from Aidy Boothroyd, with Joe Dunne has taken temporary charge.
