Ward Prepared To Commit To U’s Cause

New manager John Ward says he did not become Colchester United boss to advertise himself as upwardly-mobile.

The experienced 59-year-old former Cheltenham and Carlisle manager yesterday revealed he not only has a hunger for the job but also is not planning to leave prematurely.

The Essex club have lost out on the promising tracksuit talents with their last two ambitious appointments, now Norwich manager Paul Lambert and new Coventry man, Aidy Boothroyd.

Ward said: “They`ve moved on. It`s a progressive football club and the two previous managers have obviously seen it as that and both gone into the Championship so fair play to them and fir play to Robbie for allowing that to develop.”

He then went on to reassure fans of his viewpoint on the job he has been fortunate enough to inherit: “I don`t come into this job thinking about my next one. At this stage, we`re trying to build and develop.”

Lambert lasted just over a year with the club while Boothroyd then took flight after only nine months at Colchester United.
