Newly-established Colchester United manager John Ward told the media yesterday he did not begrudge Exeter City a draw in his first game as U`s boss.

The U`s may feel they should have won the game and assistant Joe Dunne was slightly critical of his side`s failure to close out the occasion with a lead intact, gifted them by Anthoney Wordsworth`s hard graft and sheer opportunism.

Ward praised his team`s response to losing an early gaol and was happy to take a point.

Both are very good sides who have tried to play good football, who both want to attack, get forward and have quality in their passing and movement. But when you’re 2-1 up with a few minutes to go you are looking to win it, but I can’t deny Paul Tisdale and his team a point,” the manager told BBC Radio Essex.
