Colchester United midfielder Kevin Watson, who says he is ‘delighted` to have signed a new contract, told the club`s official website he wants to see more consistency when new contracts are being offered to playing staff.

Watson, how revealed his decision to re-sign last week, believes that the remainder of the current squad deserve proper consideration and level pay following the great squad`s achievement on finishing six points outside the play-offs last team during their first Championship season.

‘I’m delighted the club are now looking at players who still have a year left on their contracts and thinking about putting them on better deals, said Watson.

‘We are still only getting 6,000 through the turnstiles, so you can’t go splashing thousands and thousands of pounds on players’ wages.

‘There has got to be a balance, yes, in terms of wages and what the players have achieved and that is what the players want rewarding for.”

‘I feel we are now moving the right way and looking at players’ contracts because gone are the days when you would be in the last two months of your contract before it gets looked at.’
