Experienced Colchester United midfielder Kevin Watson has told the club’s official website that the Essex team ought to be higher in the Championship.

Watson, currently on the cusp of a return to the first-team squad, has said that the U’s will get better this season.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash against Leicester, he said: ‘The tables are becoming a lot clearer now.’

He continued: ‘After 12 to 15 games, you begin to see how it’s going to take shape That’s the case us at the moment – we are 16th and the need couple of results.’

‘I thought we played very well against Ipswich and lost,’ added 33-year-old Watson.

‘Coventry was a different type of game. When you realise during the match that it’s not much of the game, you begin to try to try and grind out a point, but we got caught by the late goal.

‘Now we are looking over our shoulders, rather than upwards.’

On United’s current predicament, he said: ‘A half-decent run gets us up there and even though there are supposedly bigger teams in the division, why shouldn’t we be in the top 10?’

‘We were all talking at training this week, and said that our squad is up there with anyone else we team played against so there is nothing to frighten us.’
