Way Back For Lambert`s Squad Rejects?

Less than a fortnight ago Robbie Cowling was prepared to back Paul Lambert, by removing his manager`s remaining dead wood, but acting boss, Joe Dunne, has reinstated the outcasts.

Just hours after Lambert hotfooted it north to Norwich, Phil Ifil, one of the first-team’s highest-profile casualties over the last ten months, was training with Tuesday evening`s squad to take on Gillingham, also with previously-doomed defender, Matt Lockwood.

And there is hope for John White to slot himself back in Colchester contention when his loan-spell finishes with Southend.

It is possible he will stay at Root Hall, however, because White has started every game since joining on loan for a month during summertime.

He told the BBC today that his own long-term future was out of his hands, to a certain extent, although is due to return to the U’s inside ten days.

I don’t know what’s going to happen now. I’m going to leave it to the people above me and what they say goes really.

Obviously, I’ll have my opinions on it and tell them what I want to do and we’ll go from there.”

White`s comments appear guarded but then there is no suggestion that either he, nor fellow U’s team-mate Matt heath, will be automatic selections on this side of Essex.

There has been no mention of Medi Elito but Lambert`s controversial walk-out came too late for the dropped Johnnie Jackson, who switched to Notts County this week.
