‘We have to stand up and be counted’

Colchester United’s John White believes the U’s ‘have to stand up and be counted’ following their heaviest home defeat in five years.

The U’s squandered Scott Vernon’s first-half goal, as Coventry ran out 5-1 winners on Saturday.

‘It’s been the story of our season, not being able to hold on to a lead,’ White told The Colchester Gazette.

‘And for Coventry to go on and then score five goals was devastating for everyone involved.

‘It’s down to us and we wanted to go out and play for pride.’

The ex-Stevenage loanee added: ‘I think we have to stand up and be counted and take responsibility, which is what we haven’t been able to do all season and is why we’re down where we are.’
