We Must Spend To Survive – Davison

Veteran Colchester ‘keeper Aidan Davison has warned the club could struggle to top the success of their first season in the Championship next term without spending some cash to enhance the current side.

Division, 39, played a solid part in the first half of the season but lost his place to his now apprentice Dean Gerken.

He has fired off a double warning this week, saying: “We had a very successful season and it might be hard to surpass unless we spend a lot of money.’

‘It’s difficult to get the balance right. For clubs this size it can be hard economically to push on.

‘But the lads here have all proved they can play at this level and it’s been fantastic.

Davison wants to “kick on” to greater things, but added that the U`s must not rest on their laurels if they are to stand a chance of emulating the high placing again.

“It’s time now to reflect and enjoy it, and let the bodies recover, but then we’ll come back and start looking towards next season.”
