Former Derby and Sheffield United striker Chris Porter didn’t come to Colchester to suffer relegation!

We, of course, are in this battle to avoid the drop into league 2 but as much as the 31-year-old might not have had much option but to leave Bramall Lane he didn’t necessarily have to leave Sheffield United, and certainly didn’t have to leave them to sign for us but he wanted to.

Since his arrival, and with his help, we’ve secured four-points from the six-points on offer in his two-games for us with him telling the Gazette that he’s got little, to no, doubt we’ll avoid relegation.

Confidence is high and we’ll ‘keep fighting’ with a massive fixture with Crewe coming up this weekend, which we’re looking forward to but the importance of it isn’t lost on the Scot.

The main surprise to him is that we’re in trouble anyway!

He said: ‘We’ve got four points out of a possible six and if we carry on like this, there won’t be any danger of us going down, that’s for sure. With the players we’ve got, I can’t believe that we’re down there anyway.

‘We’ll carry fighting and I’m sure we’ll get out of it.

‘The confidence is high among the lads and we’re looking forward to a massive game against Crewe, this Saturday.’

Those four-points from our last two have moved us to within a point of safety so with a positive result this weekend we could move out of the drop zone, which would be the first moves to safety….
