COLCHESTER UNITED’s manager Paul Lambert has revealed that players will be told whether they’ll be staying or leaving the Weston Homes Community Stadium this summer, on Monday.

With the season drawing to a close away at Yeovil Town on Saturday, Lambert will waste no time in letting the U’s current crop of players know whether they feature in his future plans at the club. Over ten first-team faces could be heading for the U’s exit door, in what is likely to be a busy few months.

Lambert, who’s side currently sit in 14th place in League One, said: ‘The table doesn’t lie, and the squad has not been good enough this season, just as it wasn’t the previous season either.

‘I don’t criticise people individually, because I know how hard the game is, but as a team we have not performed.

‘I will have a chat with the players on Monday, and tell them my plans,’
he concluded.

On Tuesday Vital Colchester reported that former loanee Jimmy Walker could return permanently, to read the article, click here.

So it looks like U’s fans are in for a busy summer!

Lockwood, Coyne, Wasiu, Guy, Heath, Ifill, Vernon, Elito and one of Gerken or Cousins would be my guess.

  • Matt_Us says:

I agree with that, probably both the stoppers. even!

  • ooohhJohnnieJackson says:

Cousins contract is up whilst Gerken has another year at least but we could get money for him so it’s a difficult one to predict and I’m still not sure who is the current first choice under Lambert?

  • Matt_Us says:

Gerken has been playing of late, and against Peterborough, Lambert was impressed with Deano’s game. So I think Gerken will be staying. I guess he’ll bring in Walker as well, which by my logic means that Cousins has had his chance in the team.

It would be a shame as I think Cousins will progress to be a very good keeper. Im wondering if Walker joins it might be as player/goalkeeping coach which would mean Bankole being shown the door.

Interesting plan, will be interesting to find out who is leaving on Monday!
