Willams Praises Cardiff

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams believes tomorrows opponents, Cardiff City, have found a good habit lately…Winning!

Williams told fanzine My Football Writer: ‘I think winning is a good habit and they’re into that habit at the moment.’

‘The other thing is that if they don’t perform than they might not get a chance to play in the semi-finals.’

‘So they’ll be fighting tough in there to show Dave Jones that they want to be in that team.’

‘It has (been a surprising year in the FA Cup) but anyone who saw Cardiff’s performance up and Middlesbrough will say they thoroughly deserved it.’ Explained the Cwmbran-born boss.

‘You can only go out on the field and play, and that’s what the teams have done.’

‘You look at Barnsley and it wasn’t a particularly under strength Chelsea side they beat. So it’s just all credit to those teams for getting those wins.’

‘You’d have to say it’s testament to the Championship, but then again in a one-off contest you can get those games, where as over a 38 game season in the Premier League sides that have gone up from the this league have obviously struggled in the top flight.’ He explained.

U’s chief Williams, was keeping a careful eye on the Bluebirds by watching their midweek victory over high-flying Hull: ‘They’ve got a good system that works for them and their players.’

‘They get the ball down and play, they pass the ball and look to get Parry in behind with his pace – and they look to get the other front man whether it be Hasselbaink or Thompson to drop into the hole to be a target man to play off, and they do play off that.’

‘They’re a good side, Hasselbaink sits in there, Paul Parry is up front, Whittingham and McPhail scored the winner against Hull the other night so they’ve got good players all over the pitch.’ He went on.

‘They had high hopes for Peter Whittingham when he was at Aston Villa and he was in the England set-up, so he’s obviously got ability but whatever reason it didn’t happen for him there.’ But we know he’s got that ability and we’ve got to respect it.’

‘Scimeca and Loovens too – they’re all doing well at the moment so we know it’s going to be difficult, and as I say, anyone who saw their performance at Middlesbrough will know it’s going to be a tough game, but having said that go into it looking for three points and a positive performance.’ Wiliams added.

Well just a pity the U’s cannot find that good habit…erm…whats it called again?…WINNING!
