New boy Ben Williams, signed from Carlisle United earlier today, cost the club a mere £60,000.

Colchester United boss Paul Lambert helped wrap up William’s move after a lengthly transfer saga. U’s striker Scott Vernon was originally part of the deal to bring Williams South but he rejected a move in the opposite direction.

And now it has been revealed that the U’s are paying The Cumbrians £60,000 for his services, with a 25% sell-on clause inserted in the deal.

The transfer could prove to be very instinctive coup by Lambert if Williams proves to be a hit.

So are you happy with the fee involved?

That is very interesting! Lower league deals are always slightly intriguing. Basically, I reckon we got more for Gerken for sure. And why did Lambert move for Rab Douglas if he wanted Williams? Also, does that mean Vernon is valued at £60,000? We’ll never know!

The fee will go upto 100k too if we get promoted. Carlisle fan has commented to me thus: Despite improving in the second-half of last season, I’m fairly happy with this one. Took until the last game of the season to keep a clean sheet at home and was shocking until after Christmas when he finally found a bit of confidnece

So basically, he’s a little bit worse than what we already had. But PL thinks he can get something out of him, so let’s hope he can. Who is better, anyway, Williams or Mark Cousins? Hard to know!

Just got to trust and back Lambert. Not to much money to lose if things go bad though…
