Williams An Angry Man!

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams was an angry man following the U`s match against Oldham Athletic – and rightly so!

The U`s were two goals to the good thanks to a classy brace from attacking midfielder Mark Yeates, only for the Latics to snatch a point late on through Deane Smalley.

Post-match he said: ‘I was angry because we had seen Oldham manage to stifle Leeds United (2-0 away win), and yet today we got ourselves two goals ahead but couldn’t hold on.

‘It’s very disappointing not to close out the game after going 2-0 up. We got ourselves into a winning position, but did not see it out.

‘It was a very stop-start game and both me and John Sheridan asked the referee (Paul Taylor) if he could let things go a bit and let the game flow. Not every foul should be a booking,’ the Welshmen explained.

‘Mark Yeates scored two great goals. They were excellent finishes, and I felt we needed that from him because he hadn’t given us enough as an attacking threat in the last couple of games.

‘He’s delighted to get his two goals, but disappointed with the rest of us that we have not won the game.’

Athletic counterpart John Sheridan said: ‘If Clive Platt’s header had gone in (when the U’s were 2-1 up), rather than hit the post, then it may have been a different outcome.

‘It’s great that we have managed to keep our unbeaten run going. It was important to score quickly to get back in to it at 2-0 down.’
