Geraint Williams defiantly shunned claims that Colchester United are having a poor second season in the Championship after Saturday`s magnificent draw against Watford.

“I don`t think there are many sides who could come to Watford and come back the way we did,” said Williams, who was clearly delighted with the scorline. It was a delighted shared by the supporters.

“They are a very strong side, you can see why they`re top of the league, and so it says a lot about the players and I`m proud of every one of them,” he added.

Williams, however, claimed to be “fed up” with the negative coverage the club was receiving in the media and amongst some fans.

“I`m getting a bit fed up with all this negativity that`s going on outside the club. I`m at the press conference Thursday morning and all everyone wants to talk about it message boards and tactics and substitutions.

“That`s fine, I don`t mind that, but don`t bring any negativity on the club because there`s none inside the club”, he said.

He went on to intimate that actions were speaking louder than words after the weekend`s game.

He added: “The players don`t have to say anything after today`s result, what they`ve done out there in Colchester United shirts means everyone in Colchester should be proud of them.”

“We don`t just blow out air at Colchester United – we go out to win every game.”

When pressed to explain why he felt there was a certain negativity around the club, Williams was bullish: “There`s a bubble inside the ground that has always been positive but I`ve just felt that some of the questioning from the local media, and some of the things that have been said, has been negative.

“Everyone involved with the club gives 100% and a bit extra to try and make sure Colchester are successful in the Championship – they can`t do anymore than they are.

“I just wish everyone would enjoy the ride and move forward.”
