Geriant Williams tonight praised his players after their 4-0 demolition of Sheffied Wednesday, saying:

‘The lads have put the hard work in and they deserve what they are getting at the moment,’ said Williams.

‘They have shown great commitment to the cause. A performance like that shows why they are where they are in the table.

‘Throughout the team they have done well and the boys at the back were as determined as the strikers were tonight.

‘The defenders did not want to concede a late goal and Pat Baldwin has gone as far as going in for a challenge in the dying minutes that has seen him come away having to have stitches in his head.

‘We won’t sit on our laurels though. We will look to keep improving not just on the playing side but the staff will also be trying to work out how they could be doing better.’

Colchester took the lead in the first half through Jamie Cureton, who scored his 150th league goal.

Defender Greg Halford followed with a 30 yard wonder strike early in the second half.

Chris Iwelumo and Club Captain Karl Duguid continued the rout of a lacklustre Owls side scoring their 4th and 2nd goals of the season, to seal a great victory for the U’s, lifting them into 10th place with 17 points from 12 games played.
