Colchester boss Geraint Williams has told the BBC that he has no qualms about the nature of Teddy Sheringham`s 90th-minute dismissal which compounded the U`s misery after an appalling defeat against Coventry.

The U`s boss, linked with the vacancy at Norwich City this week, is a staunch fan of the forward, 41, who will receive an automatic three-match ban for his violent conduct, an attempted elbow on City skipper Michael Doyle.

Colchester are also thought to be dealing with the matter internally, which will mean that Sheringham also gets a fine.

“Teddy did catch the lad and if an arm catches somebody in the face, you run the risk of getting sent off. I’ve got no contention with the referee’s decision,” said Williams during the most-match briefing.
