Williams Thanked Fans At Full Time

Colchester United boss Geraint Williams went directly to a smattering of away support last night and thanked the fans who did make that long trip to Plymouth.

The Welshman went to speak directly to the 119 supporters who made the daunting trip only to see Colchester go down 4-1. The U`s also let in three of their goals within a very bad ten-minute spell in their joint biggest defeat of the season.

He had told My Football Writer: “I just wanted to show them an appreciation of their support. I wasn’t looking for any pats on the back or tributes because they’ve come on a long trip and we’ve got beaten 4-1.

“But the magnitude of their support for the club was seen in ‘don’t give in, we’re not giving in’ and that was the message from everybody tonight.”

The additional comments, as appearing on the official website and the Evening Gazette, saw Williams comment: “I have been at Colchester United for ten years and the hallmark of the club has always been unity.

“Everyone at the club – on and off the pitch – does their bit to try to make it successful and that will continue.”

Williams, on his rare gesture of thanking the seasoned travellers last night, added: “I wanted personally to thank them.”
