Colchester have been handed a boost by the news that Ben Williams, as he told The Gazette, has confirmed that he wants to stay with the club.

Williams is one of a number of players out of contract this summer but as he is enjoying his time at The WHCS he has no desire to leave and has made John Ward aware of this: ‘it’s my third season at Colchester and I’ve always enjoyed myself here.

‘I’ve spoken to the manager and expressed my desire to speak with him about my contract.’

29-year-old Williams has said that Ward is also keen to keep him with The U’s manager now talking with chairman Robbie Cowling and then he will get back to him but staying at the club is his ‘plan’ if possible: ‘he’s agreed and said that he’ll come back to me, so that’s where it stands at the moment.

‘The plan is to stay at Colchester and I now need to speak to the manager and the chairman.’

Williams wants to stay, Ward wants him to stay, so unless his contract demands are excessive then there shouldn’t really be any problems with getting this sorted should there?
