Williams: U`s Not Down Yet

Geraint Williams refused to accept that the U`s will be playing League 1 football come August, despite being ten points from safety at the foot of the table.

This comes after Sheffield Wednesday beat the U`s 2-1, as Williams` men fell to their fifth successive league defeat. Kevin Lisbie prodded home Karl Duguid`s scuffed shot to give the U`s a fourth minute lead, but goals from Deon Burton and Wade Small gave the Owls victory.

At full-time Williams said: ‘I’m very proud of the players because everyone gave 100% and I think that our fans could see that we put pressure on them.’

‘We got ourselves in front but we then conceded two soft goals to let them back in it.’ He admitted.

‘We’re not down at the moment but it will take a heck of a fight to get out of it.’

‘There’s still 27 points and an awful lot of pride left to play for between now and the end of the season.’ The Welshmen explained.

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was unsurprisingly happy with the three points: ‘We all knew the importance of this match – it was a must-win game for us.’

‘This might have been Colchester’s last chance to climb out of the bottom three and we may have killed them off tonight.’

‘It wasn’t pleasing on the eye but we really had to dig in deep and it doesn’t matter how we got the win.’

‘This could be the turning point in our season and the players put in a good shift for us.’ He added.
