Williams Wanted Saints Win

Colchester United manager Geriant Williams believes his side should have all three points after the U’s 1-1 draw against Southampton on Wednesday.

Welshman Williams also made three changes to the side that drew with Charlton in the previous Championship game, bringing in Adam Virgo and Aidan Davison among them. The pair gave steady showings playing a key part in the midweek match.

“Southampton had a lot of possession in the first half, but I felt we had the best chances and Kevin Lisbie could have scored,” said Williams in yesterday’s EADT.

For the side’s able replacement players, who came in for the rested Dean Gerken and suspended Matthew Connolly, Williams was full of praise. He said: “I felt it was the right time for Aidan to come back in. He hasn’t played as many games in the last few months, but he showed his experience.”

Also offering an opinion on Virgo, who stared in defence, but can also play up front, the manager said: “He’s a versatile player and a fantastic character in the dressing-room.”
