Colchester United manager John Ward was pleased to finally record the club`s first league win of the season over Rochdale this weekend.

We knew the start was really difficult; we`d got to go to Exeter, we`ve had Hereford away in the Cup, a tough game at home against Sheffield Wednesday and come here and then go to Sunderland, so the whole thing`s kind of set against you a little bit, so I`m really pleased to be at this stage with two draws and a win in the league.”

Ward`s team were outplayed by his own admission in the opening half-hour of the game but the U`s improved for the final fifteen of the first half, opening proceedings with midfielder Andy Bond`s goal, his second inside a week.

Craig Dawson the equalised with his feet following the U`s failure to clear a set-piece.

With scores level, winger-cum-forward Ian Henderson won the game for United, with a delicate finish to seal the points.

Yeah, makes the opening three results look impressive. A win and two draws – especially the way we’ve been playing – is never bad!
