Makeshift winger Kevin Lisbie could continue answering Colchester`s SOS call to fill in at right wing for the rest of his initial loan spell from Ipswich Town.

That is an obvious prognosis from today`s news that first-choice wide man, Ashley Vincent, faces an extended spell on the sidelines following what at first had actually appeared a fairly innocuous injury. The 24-year-old has revealed in the Colchester Gazette that he doesn`t expect to kick a ball again in anger until early 2010.

Vincent sustained the hurt which has been haranguing his progress in September, ironically while scoring. He told the Gazette: “It is slow going unfortunately. At the start, I thought it was a simple operation, but the surgeon found a few bits in there that he wasn`t happy with.”

The net effect should be that Lisbie, currently performing well as Vincent`s deputy, will continue for the foreseeable future to act as provider for usual striker partner Clive Platt and new loan signing, Kayode Odejayi.

It is something that should pay into Colchester’s hands, because Lisbie’s diminished goal-threat might mean his transfer value remains rooted at an affordable level when the U’s inevitably come to compete for his permanent signature during the next transfer window.

The attacker has already said he will not play for his parent club again while Roy Keane is manager, the result of an ongoing fallout which steamed from professional differences.

Lisbie remains club top-scorer, with eight goals, despite Odejay`s impressive form which has seen the Barnsley laonee net an impressive six since arriving in September.

Well, when Vincent – who is top quality – returns will be like a new January signing. Lis is more than capable of filling into to then.
