You Think Boro Or Bust For Yeatsey!

There`s a non-football fanatic friend of mine who whet to Colchester`s 2006 Championship promotion game against Yeovil, the most historic game of recent club history, who will still tell you that Yates`s bar in town severed him a stunning treat of a Saturday night when what you actually asked him was what he thought of that Yeatesy shot which cannoned off the cross-bar just after 3 pm….

But where were we! Oh, yes… although there has been no official world form Championship newcomers Middlesbrough over a potential £350,000 bid reported in the Daily Mirror last week, 31 percent of you Vital Colchester punters think that is his most likely destination.

Manager Paul Lambert admitted the next day that it would be almost impossible to keep the player beyond this summer.

Click here to read what Lambo had to say on the matter at the end of last week on BBC local radio.

A mere nine percent of the wiser-than-your-average Vital-hopping voters were not fooled by recent speculation saying Bristol City could hijack a move. (He`s got more sense, surely?)

Twenty percent of our floating voters also think Yeates will opt for another Championship team, any other, that is, to what`s already been mentioned, and after a strong start in the opinion stakes only nine percent of the vote said Yeates will re-assert his link with Crystal Palace, where the free-kick wizard failed a medical last summer shortly after the U`s Championship relegation. Just twelve percent of you think he’ll try it on again with Palace.

Happily, Yeates was true to his word after the non-move; he buckled down and scooped the top-scorer award, with thirteen goals, including a few stunning free-kicks.

He was top of what our Swedish cousins over at the supporters` association there quaintly call the side`s shooting league… (Regular followers will notice I’m developing an obsession with that darn website!)

Lastly, an optimistic twenty eight percent of you, perhaps clicking as a devil`s advocate, think he will stay. For how long? Does this mean a drawn-out contact saga as the player puts himself in the shop window next season trying to win a move next summer…?

Thanks for voting, please see the front page for our new poll!

Long and drawn-out or quick and painless?

As far as I’m concerned; If he wants to go, then cash in on him and spend the money elsewhere. If he wants to stay, then pen him to a new deal. I think the first option is the most likely.
