Angry Izzet: City Game ‘Rubbish’

Colchester United`s Kem Izzet, who turns 27 today, has admitted his side were aiming to take “six or seven” points for the three games against West Brom, Coventry and Ipswich last week.

He also told the club`s official website after Saturday`s defeat to Coventry at the Rioch Arena that it had been a disappointing week in all, although offered a resolution to guard against future defeats. “You have to get on the training pitch, work hard, keep the team spirit up and go again,” he said.

“If you don`t, you just keep losing, losing and losing.”

Colchester have only won four games all season and taken just six points from a possible fifteen over the last five matches. “It`s down to us,” continued Kem, “and we`ve got no-one else to blame.”

He spoke candidly after the match, where a late goal by Michael Mifsud gave Coventry all the points and sealed their first victory in four outings. “It`s one of those games where we didn`t play well, but we didn`t deserve to lose it – that`s the story of our season so far.”

He added: “The quality wasn`t there, but the work-ethic still is. We just need to pick ourselves up because there`s another game on Saturday.”

Izzet put the lack of firepower during the weekend`s game down to poor quality finishing and even implied that some of the division`s most prolific net-busters are suffering a purple patch over their self-confidence.

“The quality going forward was not there today, I think that was obvious. We know that, the manager knows that – we`ve been working hard defensively and it showed; we need to get the blend right.’

“It was a nothing game; rubbish to play in, and we`d probably have taken nil-nil,” he added.

“Losing was a real bitter pill to swallow. There was only ever going to be one goal in it and unfortunately they got it: game over.”
