Aidy Boothroyd has sent a rallying message to Colchester United’s younger players and youth teamers.
The former Watford boss handed YTS product Tom Bender a late cameo, during last weekend’s win over Hartlepool United, with the defender just 16 years, 243 days old. He goes down as the second-ever youngest player to feature professionally in a U’ shirt.
And now Boothroyd, 38, who has made a huge impact since becoming manager at the start of the month, has urged fellow youngsters to work hard.
‘I’m all for youth and my view is that if you’re good enough, you’re old enough,’ he told The Daily Gazette.
Wise words, Aidy!
