Brave Ben Williams earned a reputation for striking fear into the hearts of League One strikers last season, scooping a series of professional awards. Now the ex-Manchester United keeper is proving he`s also not afraid to take on the media.

Speaking to the EADT recently, following an injury which has hampered his pre-season preparations to date, John Ward fended renewed questions over his commitment to Colchester by cuffing away calculated quires, felled by transfer speculation.

Andy [Marshall] coming in has been of mutual benefit. He was released by Aston Villa at the end of the season so we have given him somewhere local to his home to train, while it`s suited us because I didn`t want Mark Cousins to be training and playing every day,” boss Ward explained after the arrival of the ex-Aston Villa man on trail.

His typically on pitch coolness has shone through over the past year, and Ward added: “People can read into what they want, but it`s no more than that. There have been no promises of contracts to Andy.”

Cat-like and cockshaw, as ever, Williams has left even the most hyperactive hacks clutching at straws.
