Speculation continued today with one local paper reporting that former Southend Midfielder Luke Gutteridge was ready to sign for Essex rivals Colchester United.

The former Cambridge and Leyton Orient player scored just one goal this season as the Shrimpers suffered a Championship relegation after just one term.

The Basildon based Echo reports that ‘Gutteridge is keen to secure another crack at Championship football and will ignore interest from elsewhere to join the U’s’

What?? Didn’t he just sign for sombody else? Or is he out of contract?

  • Deeno says:

Think there was talk of Coventry City interest too, he was at Orient last year, dont know if he is available on a free but we will have to wait and see. Nothing coming out the club as usual.

Yes, as usual. There are two other stories that are unconfirmed. Some former Swansea bloke is on a free and we could be in for him, as well as Nicky Forster being used as bate in a Curo swap deal.

No please not another Town Reject.

Couldn’t happen until July 1 anyway. And he only got a handful last season and is quite old.

Good player with a poor attitude so I have heard. Not great for the changing room and although we missed him as a player getting McCormack on board more then made up for it.I think he managed to upset some Sufc supporters and if he goes to you I am sure he will upset some more.

We don’t want someone with a poor attitute. Team-work is what made the U’s so good in the past!

yes I hate to say it…..well I am from the better half of Essex but you were fantastic last season (like we were for two seasons running) and one of the reasonS would have been team spirit which we also had in abbudance until players such as Rickketts and others turned up!
Hope you stay up (to prove you don’t have to have millions to succed)and we join you again next season

Yes; there are either two opinions on the Southend / U’s issue. Either you want Southend Vs Col U as a rival game, or don’t. I would loved more derby games (but perhaps because we won them last season..! After the 3-0 though, a Southend fan came up to me and said ‘well done.’ That, consdiering all things, must have been hard.

  • Ed Junior says:

I.M.O No point of have a rivalry if you don’t get to play against each other!

  • Matt_Us says:

Very true! But I don’t think the pre-season games of a few years back were well advised and the LDV vans gave Blues N U’s a game outside of the League!!

  • Ed Junior says:

let’s know when you want to get this local derby chat set up with Ipswich Norwich etc..

  • Ed Junior says:

ps.I doubt Norwich and Ipswich will like it if you call it Essex chat lol
