After a recent run of poor form and a 4-1 hammering away to fellow strugglers Cardiff City on Saturday the U’s find themselves in the bottom three.

Again after taking the lead if somewhat against the run of play, Colchester United capitulated in the second half of Saturdays game allowing their hosts to score 4 goals and sending the men from Essex to the drop zone for the first time since the beginning of season 2006/2007.

Colchester opened the scoring just before half time through Johnny Jackson, with Steve Thompson equalizing early on into the second period.

Moments later former Swansea winger Kevin Mcloed had a golden opportunity to put the visitors back in front only for Schemiechel to save and send the Bluebirds on the counter attack resulting in Peter Whittingham putting the home side ahead.

With their tales up and coming from behind in style Cardiff kept searching for more goals and Colchester had not answer to their dominance, indeed with Virgo turning the ball into his own net the U’s were left with a Welsh mountain to climb.

With Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ending a barren run of seven matches without a goal the game was well and truly lost leaving Colchester languishing in the lower reaches of the Championship.
