Sunderland defender Danny Collins has warned his team-mates about complacency ahead of Saturday’s Championship trip to Colchester.

Sunderland are currently eight places ahead of Colchester in the Championship standings and are on course to finish the season in an automatic promotion spot, with games against the U’s, Burnley and Luton still to come.

However, Colchester’s ground, Layer Road, has proved to be a difficult place for the top sides this campaign, with Derby, Southampton, Cardiff, Wolves, Preston and Stoke having all been defeated there, and Collins says they must be aware of the threat Colchester pose.

Collins told the club’s website: ‘We have to be on our guard there. Colchester have the best home record in the division so they must be doing something right.

‘We will have to win the battle before we do anything else, not many teams have gone there and done well. Colchester are still going for a play-off spot so they will be up for it.’
