Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling has confirmed the U’s are currently in talks with Matt Lockwood over a move to North Essex.
The comes after the U’s had a bid of £100,000 accepted by his current club, Nottingham Forest, yesterday. The 31-year-old full-back moved to the city ground for a fee believed to be around £300,000 last July, after ending a nine year stay with Leyton Orient.
Cowling told CU-FC.com: ‘We have had a bid accepted for Matt by Nottingham Forest and we are currently in talks with the player about a move to Colchester United.’
If the U’s manage to complete a deal for the experienced defender he will be the U’s second summer signing, after Matt Heath signed on a free transfer earlier this week.
