Don`t concentrate on small things

I`m on a bit of a roll! In my waffle before the Ipswich game I said I`d take 1-0 with one off Doogie`s backside. Ok, I got my anatomy wrong, but still pretty good given the skipper hadn`t scored since Henry VIII was in nappies.

Then I rambled about the international prospects of Chris Iwelumo, Jamie Cureton and Greg Halford – and tipped another cracking game against Wednesday. All three scored and it was a belter!

Ok, tipping our in-form strikers to score will hardly have Mystic Meg retiring her crystal ball – and I did mention Richard Garcia too, aiming for the Socceroos squad but three out of four`s not bad!

But luck is like those magic eye pictures or being good at ten-pin bowling. If you focus on it and concentrate/try too hard, it vanishes. If you just let it happen it comes right for you.

People are starting to notice the U`s now though, as we chip away and move up the table.

How luck and confidence go hand-in-hand eh?

I think we`d all agree, at his best Greg Halford is a cracking player. Too good for Colchester but there`s no shame in that. At his peak he`s too good for most of this division.

Against Wednesday on, well? Wednesday, he had a slow start to the game. He looked a bit nervous. That raking 50-yard pass to set Cureton through for the opening goal, (though aided by some comedy defending) gave him a real boost. For the next 70 minutes he played a blinder.

The winger he was marking, Wade Small, didn`t get a look-in and the shot he hit for his goal would still be going now if the net hadn`t stopped it.

That confidence coursed through the team. I`m not sure if George had told the lads to ‘shoot on sight`, but Iwelumo and Duguid both thumped home from outside the box too. To even attempt those you have to feel confident.

There have been a few times where we`ve over-complicated things and been afraid to shoot. Not on Wednesday. With marksmanship like that, long may it continue!

And long may people continue to underestimate us. Every ‘big` team that comes to town are part curious, part “outraged” they should even have to “lower” themselves to coming to teams like Colchester United.

If we continue our good form they`ll start to take us more seriously, focus on us, concentrate and? our good form might vanish!

So keep your heads down and try to cheer more quietly will you?! Goodness me? anyone would think we were the top team in East Anglia or something?
